One to be aware and watch out for…………

November 24, 2007

This information came to us from Divisional Headquarters. I don’t normally dismiss a movie or literature because someone ’says’ it’s about such and such or has this motivation, but its worth knowing in advance if you are planning to see it or take your kids to see it.

The information in the rest of this post is produced in full, in the form it has been received, please feel free to make your own choices and form your own opinions, armed with another view other than the production hype!

Golden Compass

” …something to watch out for…

All,

There will be a new children’s movie out in December called “The Golden Compass”.  The movie has been described as “atheism for kids” and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled “His Dark Materials” that was written by Phillip Pullman.

Pullman is a militant atheist and secular humanist who despises C. S. Lewis and the “Chronicles of Narnia”.  His motivation for writing this trilogy was specifically to counteract Lewis’ symbolisms of Christ that are portrayed in the Narnia series.  Clearly, Pullman ’s main objective is to bash Christianity and promote atheism.   Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that “my books are about killing God.”  He has even stated that he wants to “kill God in the minds of children”.  It has been said of Pullman that he is “the writer the atheists would be praying for, if atheists prayed.” While “The Golden Compass” movie itself may seem mild and innocent, the books are a much different story.  In the trilogy, a young streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to ultimately defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God.  Another character, an ex-nun, describes Christianity as “a very powerful and convincing mistake.”  In the final book, characters representing Adam and Eve eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH.   Each book in the trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman ’s hatred of Jesus Christ.“The Golden Compass” is set to premier on December 7, during the Christmas season (and staring Nicole Kidman), and will probably be heavily advertised.  Promoters hope that   unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie, that they will enjoy the movie, and that the children will want the books for Christmas. Please consider a boycott of the movie and the books. Also, pass this information along to everyone you know (including church leaders).  This will help to educate parents, so that they will know the agenda of the movie.   So many things today are darkness concealed in what appears to be innocent.

Don’t let kids see “The Golden Compass”
The motivation behind it is to get kids to disregard the positive influence that belief in God will have in their lives

Moving on

November 11, 2007

It’s great to see young people progressing between the sections. Recently, we had four Cubs move on from Cubs to Scouts. Also another new Scout joined the Troop direct

 Moving on

They made their promises and were invested into the Scout Troop swelling their numbers to eleven, which is great. They also received their Moving On awards from Akela as they left the pack.

More than Conkerer’s!

November 4, 2007

The Scouts had a traditional Autumn activity for one of their meetings. A conker competition.

Scout Conkers

The idea (for the uninitiated) is that you make a hole in a conker, thread string through it and challenge others. The person being challenged has to hold their conker on the string still whilst the challenger takes a swipe at it. If they miss it’s your turn.

The object of the challenge is (having actually hit the other persons conker) to destroy the conker. The Scouts had loads of fun trying to outdo each others conker as you can see from the photo’s. There is some video of it and as soon as I work out how to post it I will put it up.

The only difference I could see from when we used to enter the 24th Lewisham North (SA) Cubs in the District conker competition quite some time ago (Apart from the scale of the noise and mess!)  is that we have gone health and safety conscious and the Scouts wore gloves :)
