July 18, 2007

Jambo

Jambo – The Official Song of The Scout Association is currently CD of the week in Tesco Stores throughout the UK. (week beginning 16th July).

The Association would like to celebrate our Centenary of Scouting with a Top Ten Single and we need all Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, etc. to get involved this week and join our mission to top the charts and show the world that Scouting has the ‘S’ Factor!

Please go to www.jamboreesong.com and forward this email to everyone you know in Scouting.  We need as many people as possible to get the Single or download by Sunday 22nd July so that we can get into the Top 40 – then the radio stations will have to play The Scouts’ song and spread the Scouting Message – wouldn’t a Number One single be a great way to celebrate our Centenary!

The Official CD is on the shelves at Tesco NOW and the song is available to download at itunes and at The Official Scout Download Site for just 99p!.

At www.jamboreesong.com there is a ‘Hall Of Fame’ where Scouts, Cubs and Beavers from all over the UK are sending in photos of themselves with their copy of ‘Jambo’!

The band, The Adventure, is made up of four Scouts, Peter, Lucie, Nick and Caz. The song was recorded in April and features vocal support from Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We need our Members and the parents of our young people to join in with the mission to get to the top of the charts.

The main ways to get the single in the United Kingdom  are: In the UK, pop into your local Tesco store and pick up the souvenir CD.  The CD contains five tracks plus the Jambo video and exclusive Scouting web content and costs just £3.99  You can also order your CD from tesco online! Outside the UK, you can order your copy of the souvenir CD at www.jamboreesong.com/worldVisit www.jamboreesong.com where you can download  the song, as well as the dance remix and the karaoke track.  The tracks are also available on itunes

General’s Scouting Centenary message

July 6, 2007

General Shaw Clifton on behalf of the Salvation Army  extended greetings and good wishes to Scouts and Leaders worldwide on the occasion of the Centenary of Scouting.

General Shaw Clifton & Commissioner Helen Clifton

ON the occasion of the centenary of scouting (1 August 2007), The Salvation Army wishes to extend greetings and good wishes to Scouts and leaders around the world.

The Army has always had close links with the Scouting Association. It was encouragement from the organisation’s founder, Lord Baden Powell, that prompted The Salvation Army’s Founder, William Booth, to inaugurate Life-Saving Scouts in 1913, to be followed by Life-Saving Guards in 1915 .

Those links were strengthened in 1948, when Salvation Army Life-Saving Scouts became officially affiliated to the Scouting Association.

The Salvation Army recognises and respects the values of scouting. As a worldwide Christian church and social agency, at work in 111 countries, it acknowledges the unifying power of an organisation such as the scouting movement.

The theme ‘2007: One World One Promise’, selected for this centenary year, serves to emphasise this unity.

Many Salvation Army Scouts and leaders will be among the anticipated 40,000 who will celebrate the centenary by participating in the 21st World Scout Jamboree, to be held from 27 July to 8 August in the birthplace of scouting, the United Kingdom.

May the centenary objective of ‘Every Scout in the world making a contribution towards peace’ be realised, and the benefits of scouting be seen to make a real difference around the world.
